The Single ZES at the Heart of the Strategy for Boosting Competitiveness in Southern Italy: 639 Single Authorisations Issued to Date

The economic impact of the Single Special Economic Zone (ZES) in supporting the revitalisation of Southern Italy was the focus of the talk organised by the ZES Mission Unit of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers at ForumPA 2025.

A total of 639 Single Authorisations have been issued since the establishment of the Single ZES, generating significant economic benefits and creating new jobs.

During his speech, the Coordinator of the Mission Unit presented the current state of implementation of the ZES, highlighting the first tangible results. The data shared confirmed the effectiveness of the Single Authorisation as a simplification tool for business investment, and the role of the Single ZES as a strategic lever for enhancing the competitiveness of Southern Italy and the country as a whole.

The Single ZES is also becoming an enabler for innovation within the Public Administration. Through the One-Stop Shop, a new model of digital administrative procedures has been introduced to support investors throughout the entire process. Meanwhile, the streamlining of Single Authorisations has reduced the average processing time to just 30 days.
